On Wednesday 23 March, we held the first TSO OpenUp event in London to announce the winner of our OpenUp contest and host presentations from leading open data experts.
Following the launch of the OpenUp contest, which encouraged the general public to come up with ideas for re-using government data for the greater good of the community, four finalists were shortlisted and invited to pitch their ideas to a panel of open data experts at the stunning venue, Altitude 360 in London.
After much debate and careful consideration by the panel, Professor Nigel Shadbolt announced Tony Hirst and his idea for providing Access to UCAS University Course Data as the winner of TSO's OpenUp challenge. Tony's idea, which aims to allow easier comparison for university applicants, earned him a £1000 personal prize and a £50,000 development fund to turn the idea into reality.
